Scientific Grand Challenge: To develop a global coupled model of the atmosphere and the oceans, including chemical tracers and biological processes, to be used to model seasonal cycle and interannual variability.
Scientific Understanding: To test the predicted seasonal cycle and interannual variability of a coupled atmosphere/ocean model with 100 chemical and macrophysical tracers and 4x the present spatial resolution.
Computational Challenge: To allow rapid tests of the impact of model parameterization changes and runs representing multi-year inter-annual variability and the carbon cycle. Also, to allow visualization of time accurate model output in real time.
Metric: An ensemble of the global coupled atmosphere and ocean model simulations of one or more decades at double the linear resolution of the atmosphere and four times the resolution for the ocean.
