Large Scale Structure and Galaxy Formation

Scientific Grand Challenge: To allow a physically meaningful comparison between empirical data and the hydrodynamic models of large-scale structure and galaxy formation.

Scientific Understanding: To test the numerically predicted galaxtic luminosity with that observed.

Computational Challenge: To improve the "sub-grid" physics to better represent the physical processes and to shorten the time required to extract the needed physical information from both the simulations and NASA databases by utilizing innovative analysis techniques.

Metric: To improve the numerical statistics of the simulations by increasing the number of particles by a factor of 50-100.
