Global Modeling and Data Assimilation

This section presents a number of general discussions on scientific and computational aspects of Four Dimensional Data Assimilation (4DDA).

The first is a paper that was written for the PetaFlops Systems Workshops. This paper can also be downloaded as a compressed postscript file.

The second is the slides that I used for a general talk on 4DDA at the Workshop on Computational Challenges for Space and Earth Science at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, June 12 1996 (updated March 29, 1997).

To view a paper that describes the Kalman filter approach for constituent assimilation on isentropic surfaces, and shows how this is implemented on distributed memory computers using message-passing libraries see the following paper: P.M. Lyster, S.E. Cohn, R. Ménard, L.-P. Chang, S.-J. Lin, and R.G. Olsen: Parallel Implementation of a Kalman filter for Constituent Data Assimilation. accepted Mon. Wea. Rev.
