Learn about the Earth System Modeling Framework (ESMF) in a 24- by 36-inch wall poster. Its centerpiece is a colorful field with globes representing 22 model components and lines tracing ESMF-enabled connections among the components. Visualizations of results from seven major model systems and photographs of real-world applications capture the potential impacts of the ESMF.
The ESMF poster is a companion to the Space Weather Modeling Framework poster.
The ESMF poster is available free of charge for educational purposes to individuals and groups in the United States. Please send your name, mailing address, and numbers of copies requested to Jarrett.S.Cohen@nasa.gov.
Truth-N-Beauty Software has developed an interactive version of the poster in Flash. You will need Adobe Flash Player to view it.
The ESMF is a national-scale collaboration to build a software infrastructure that allows weather and climate model components from different researchers to operate together on parallel supercomputers.
The ESMF strengthens communication among diverse groups, connecting scientists with software developers and weather forecasters with climate modelers. This cross-disciplinary venture reduces redundant programming through software that can run climate models at high performance on a variety of supercomputers. The ESMF also simplifies climate model construction and the exchange and incorporation of new sub-models. By enabling comparison of models based on alternative scientific approaches, the ESMF ultimately improves predictive capabilities.
