Image: North Atlantic Ocean Sea Surface Temperatures/Yi Chao, Peggy Li, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Chao is a co-investigator with Roberto Mechoso, UCLA). The visualization shows the results of a 30-year North Atlantic Ocean model run on the JPL CRAY T3D. Its one-sixth degree grid with 37 vertical layers produced for the first time narrow eddies that carry most of the ocean's kinetic energy.
